Preschool Information
Macon County School System is responsible for serving 3,4,- and 5-year old children with disabilities located in hospitals, community residential centers, and developmental day centers. When a child turns three, responsibility for funding early intervention services changes from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to the Public Schools of North Carolina. Services included in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) are provided at no cost to the family. Under Federal law this is called FAPE: Free Appropriate Public Education. Available services include early identification and screening, multidisciplinary evaluations, medical services evaluations, related services such as assistive technology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language therapy, transportation, and special education.
